Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions?
What is SproutBeat?
SproutBeat is an interactive music theory web app used by teachers and students all over the world, both in lessons and at home. Our extensive library allows teachers to customize theory lessons to assign to each student, no matter where they are.
When playing the educational online games, students get instant feedback so they can self-correct before their next lesson. And with the digital worksheets and the built-in writing tools, you’ll never have to print another worksheet again! (unless you want to 😊)
Let SproutBeat help you share fun, engaging music theory games and worksheets with every student, every lesson, every time.
Learn more by visiting our What is SproutBeat? page.
Are there any SproutBeat tutorial videos?
YES! We have created several short videos to help you get started. They are available within the SproutBeat web app, but you can also visit our tutorial videos page any time.
How are the interactive games different from the worksheets?
The interactive games provide instant feedback to students. As they finish each short game, the system calculates the accuracy of the student’s answers and provides them with a score. Since the game pieces are randomized, students can play them multiple times to master each theory concept. Games will be automatically marked as complete with a score of 90% or above.
Our worksheets are like digital theory pages. Using the built-in writing tools, teachers and students can write or draw directly on the device screen. Just like a theory book, all worksheet assignments will need to be checked and graded by the teacher. Most worksheets can be completed within 30 seconds, making them perfect to use as an assessment tool. A quick review of previous lessons has never been this easy!

Where can I get more ideas on how to use SproutBeat?
What kind of device do I need?
SproutBeat is a web-based application, so any device with a browser would work – a computer, iPad, or tablet. We strongly recommend using Chrome or Safari browsers, as these are the platforms we used to extensively test the web app.
We do not recommend using SproutBeat on a phone due to its small screen, and will thus not provide a user-friendly experience.
(Note: We previously had an app version for iOS, but we have now made it easier for everyone to use by upgrading it to a web-based application.)
Is SproutBeat a method book?
If you don’t see your preferred method in Methods section, please let us know what you’re looking for. If there is enough interest, we can make that happen!
Does SproutBeat provide resources for ear training?

Can I request custom games or worksheets for my students?
Yes. Though we have over 3000+ resources in the library, if you don’t find what you need for your students, please let us know. We’re always happy to talk with teachers about what they need! We do our best to create the content you need that fits your individual students.
Can my students use SproutBeat at home?
Yes. All paid accounts come with a set of student licenses that teachers set up on an individual student basis.
Once you have set up your student’s account, then you can assign games or worksheets to this student to complete anywhere they want on any device that has access to the internet—in your studio, during lab time, at home, on vacation—you name it!
Please note, students will only see the games and worksheets you have assigned them. To learn how to do this, visit our tutorial videos page.
What value can SproutBeat provide for online lessons?
Many teachers have successfully used SproutBeat during online lessons by sharing their screen and using it along with the students. Two series we started just especially for this are the “Tic Tac Toe” and “I Spy” resources, great for implementing when anything unexpected comes up or whenever students need a quick change of pace.
If the online student is savvy enough, they can even share their screen as they play the games and complete the worksheets you have assigned them from their own account.
Additionally, our online assignment system offers a great way to assign, turn in, and grade theory homework digitally so you can spend more time teaching during lessons, instead of assessing if they did their homework.
How much does SproutBeat cost?
Our free plan gives you access to try 50 games and worksheets right away. Our paid plan starts at $15/month or $135/year with 5 student licenses that you can allocate as you wish. You can increase the number of student accounts one at a time, any time you need to. Visit our Plans page to learn more.
We recommend teachers collect $3 per student to cover SproutBeat membership. Use our “Show me the math” calculator in your account settings to figure out what you could charge students to help you invest in technology for your studio or anything else you need.
How do I sign up for an account?
If you have questions and would like to chat with one of our representatives, please visit our contact page.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes, if you sign up for a paid plan, you can cancel at any time and we won’t bill you again.
Please note: you will still have access to your full account until your paid account access expires, which is based on the date of your previous payment. (Thirty days for monthly plans and one year for annual plans.) Early cancellation of a plan does not warrant a refund on your account.
